This book documents the unique reporting practices of humanitarian
journalists - an influential group of journalists defying
conventional approaches to covering humanitarian crises. Based on a
5-year study, involving over 150 in-depth interviews, this book
examines the political, economic and social forces that sustain and
influence humanitarian journalists. The authors argue that - by
amplifying marginalised voices and providing critical, in-depth
explanations of neglected crises - these journalists show us that
another kind of humanitarian journalism is possible. However, the
authors also reveal the heavy price these reporters pay for
deviating from conventional journalistic norms. Their peripheral
position at the 'boundary zone' between the journalistic and
humanitarian fields means that a humanitarian journalist's job is
often precarious - with direct implications for their work,
especially as 'watchdogs' for the aid sector. As a result, they
urgently need more support if they are to continue to do this work
and promote more effective and accountable humanitarian action. A
rigorous study of how unique professional practices can be produced
at the 'boundary zone' between fields, this book will interest
students and scholars of journalism and communication studies,
sociology and humanitarian studies. It will also appeal to those
interested in studies of news and media work as occupational
identities.

Mass deportation is at the forefront of political discourse in the
United States. The Shadow of the Wall shows in tangible ways the
migration experiences of hundreds of people, including their
encounters with U.S. Border Patrol, cartels, detention facilities,
and the deportation process. Deportees reveal in their
heartwrenching stories the power of family separation and
reunification and the cost of criminalization, and they call into
question assumptions about human rights and federal policies. The
authors analyze data from the Migrant Border Crossing Study (MBCS),
a mixed-methods, binational research project that offers socially
relevant, rigorous social science about migration, immigration
enforcement, and violence on the border. Using information gathered
from more than 1,600 post-deportation surveys, this volume examines
the different faces of violence and migration along the
Arizona-Sonora border and shows that deportees are highly connected
to the United States and will stop at nothing to return to their
families. The Shadow of the Wall underscores the unintended social
consequences of increased border enforcement, immigrant
criminalization, and deportation along the U.S.-Mexico border.

This handbook aims to provide animal owners with all the
information they need to use crystal healing on their pets and
other animals. This is an area of healing that is ages old, but
recently started to regain popularity amongst the public. Animal
owners are attracted to it for its gentleness and saftey, yet
crystals are powerful catalysts for healing on both the physical
and emotional levels. Crystals are effective for animals of all
shapes and sizes, from a goldfish to a cart horse, and so this book
should be of use for owners of every type of pet and animal. In
this book the authors make reference to the ways this form of
therapy can help different types of animals, giving the subject a
wide range of interest.
